20 Oct Book Review: A Surprising, Gorgeous Conclusion
The Sweet Far Thing by Libba Bray
Finally, the third book in the Gemma Doyle Trilogy.
This is a monster of a book compared to the first two. But it runs smoothly.
Of the three, this one was my least favorite. It seemed to meander in ways I didn’t expect and some of the world didn’t quite lay out and make sense to me the way I wanted it to.
BUT I still felt deeply engaged in Gemma’s conflict and the way thing were happening for her in her story. Specifically, I was enraptured by the challenges she’s meeting with her friends as they achieve their own growth and as she fell deeper in love with her love interest.
There is kind of a surprise at the end that I didn’t see coming and was really sad about, but I always love books that can make me feel something. So, I do appreciate that “A Sweet Far Thing” did that.
Libba Bray’s writing is as evocative and gorgeous as ever.
Even though I wasn’t totally on board with the plot twists and turns, I was still totally enraptured by the style.
I totally sunk in to this book.
