More Than Just Pixie Dust

There are so many different representations of fairies (sometimes spelled faeries) in fiction.

We’ve got gauzy, etherial benevolence who are helpers.

Mischevious-but-good like Tinkerbell. Sometimes they are winged, sometimes not.

The fairies in the Network Series are bloodthirsty and pointy-teethed.

But the fairies in Out of Ordure by Ramón Terrell blew me away.

I mean just look at the cover.

This fairy is grumpy. I kind of love her.

In Out of Ordure, the fairies are funny. I’m not talking adorable and cute, but I mean laugh out loud hilarious. Ramón’s sense of humor totally shines.

He has the usual fairies that help flowers bloom and babies learn to giggle, but he also has engineer fairies and waste management fairies.

It’s not all glamour and glittering pixie dust.

I have known Ramón for years. (Bias acknowledged.) But these fairies totally swept me away.

Ramón has created an entire culture of magical creatures. It’s light and fun like you want fairies to be, but it also broke the mold. I mean magically processing waste? Srsly.

Check out this interview below where Ramon and I get into all the goods.

You can catch more from Ramón at his website here: https://ramonterrell.com/

And, yes, if you go check out his books… he posed for his own covers.

How cool is that?
